I Can’t Say I Love You Until I Love Myself
Thoughts of a teenage love affair
So easy to mistake for a life together
My eyes speak before my heart can feel
I just deal with the feeling for bout a week or two
I’m sorry Babe but I don’t love you
Not in the way you’re thinking anyways
I paid attention when mama was talkin’
I kept walkin but I heard her
That kind of love requires a lot of sacrifices
Some stuff that I’m just not ready to give up
And so corrupt this world is today
Hey if it makes you feel any better
I’m just beginning to love myself
In a world where the image is prepaid
And made by what others say and do
I barely love me so how can I love you
You’re the sweetest person I know
Don’t think I could meet any one nicer, politer
And I can’t take treating you this way much longer
I’m sure you would be so much stronger if I hadn’t come along
Please don’t let me get you off track
Because although it seems I have it all together trust me
I’m just beginning to weather the worst of my storms
I know you want to be there and help ma through
But God’s the only man for the job right now boo
I barely love me so how can I truly love you
You are the prototype to the personality
I could only dream a person to have
You know how to make a person feel good with a simple laugh
But I must be honest which is really hard to do
I’m not quite sure what I want rite now
I just know I don’t want to confuse you
Tired of screening your phone calls
Feels oh so childish
I’m almost grown about to go to college
Army strong and ready to go
Yet I feel bad and very low
I just got to get big and let you know
How I feel
I can’t love anyone else
Until I truly love myself
